Popular songs say that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. And it certainly is a beautiful time, particularly when we focus on the miraculous event of God becoming man and being born of a virgin. Yes, the birth of Jesus is something to celebrate indeed.
It was His death, burial, and most importantly - His resurrection, that changed the world!
This season is not about chocolate bunnies, or eggs, or any such thing (by the way, did you know that rabbits don't lay chocolate eggs? In fact, they don't lay eggs at all! Amazing!). You won't find anything in the Bible about rabbits or chocolate eggs or even the word Easter for that matter.
This season is about the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the single most important event in history. The scriptures says "...if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:14 ESV
Without the resurrection of Jesus, there is no gospel message, no good news (gospel means = good news), no salvation, no deliverance from sickness, poverty, and death.
John 14:20 says that Jesus is in us and we are in Him. Galatians 2:20 says "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me..." If Christ is in us, then we live and walk and breathe with the same power, the same resurrection power that He has.
Not convinced, then read this from John 14:12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father."
This is the too good to be true message of the resurrection, because Jesus died and was resurrected, we can live and walk and breath and demonstrate the same power that raised Him from the dead.
So why do our traditions make this season about bunnies and chocolate? It is a distraction from the enemy of our souls. Don't buy into it. Sure, you can buy a chocolate bunny if you want, but while you are eating that sweet chocolate, think about how sweet is the real meaning of the season.
